A Meditation Teacher Explains How to Find Love In 4 Sentences
Once you know, there’s no turning back
Many years ago, a butterfly flew into a young boy’s hand. The butterfly was so beautiful that the young boy wanted to keep it all for himself so he quickly closed his palm to trap it inside.
However, by holding on too tightly he squashed the butterfly, starved it of oxygen, and crushed its tiny winged body.
Years later, as a young man, another butterfly flew into his palm. This time, taking everything he had learned from the past, he knew that the only way for him to enjoy its beauty was to have the courage to keep his palm open – even if that meant the butterfly could fly away at any moment.
This has been my journey with love. You could say that I’m the young boy in the story.
Initially, once a new loving relationship was established, I would try and hold onto it. I was so scared of my lover leaving that I tried to trap them.
It took me many years to learn, as the story suggests, that In doing so, love is not something that I can control and hold onto but something I must open myself up to and surrender to.
It went from something that had rules and obligations to something that had freedom of choice.
