A Parable On Reincarnation
“You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the ocean in a drop.” — Rumi
Meet a young boy and his father who tries to explain the mysterious topic of reincarnation with a little help from water. The parable picks up their conversation somewhere from the beginning...
“What Has Water Got To Do With Reincarnation?”
Asked the little boy to his father.
“Well son, every time water changes form, it forgets what it was before so it can be what it is now.”
“What are forms daddy?” Asked the little boy, now slightly confused.
“Forms are either solids, liquids or gases, son, and water can be all three. It can be water, ice and air which makes it extra special as it’s the only thing here on Earth that can do just that.”
“How is water a gas?!” Squeaked the little boy.
“When water gets very hot it becomes steam and when this happens it floats higher and higher into the sky.”
“Then where does it go?”
“It will find other friends that are doing the same and then they’ll stay together for a long time. This group of friends are called Clouds. Now, when clouds are ready to take there next big adventure they light up the sky and cheer with a belly fully of thunder and then rush down to see what their next life holds for them.”
“There next life?” The boy asked, trying to understand.
