An Uncomfortable Truth from Robert Greene That Completely Changed How I Approach Life

There’s nothing more terrifying than going through life as an actor.

I know because I did it for 15 years.

As a result, I lived with suppressed anger and anxiety and ended up with an inflamed gut.

However, as uncomfortable as this was, I was accepted by others. So I thought the only way that I could be loved was to play a role.

This was (sadly) what I knew friendship to be.

Obviously, this approach isn’t sustainable which Robert Greene coldly pointed out:

“Remember this: the world wants to assign you a role. And once you accept that role, you’re doomed.”

As doomed as I was, he also offered a solution that changed how I approached life:

“Always stick to what makes you weird, odd, strange, different. That’s your source of power.” – Robert Greene

I knew I couldn’t be those things at home so I decided to travel the world and give it a try. This turned out to be the best decision of my life.

I finally understood what true friendship was. I finally understood what Robert Greene meant. And I finally understood that my source of power lies in my uniqueness and not in my compliance.

I would bet that yours does too.

Perhaps Dr. Seuss summed this up best when he said:

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

So, be weird, odd, strange, and different.

It’s more fun.
