How to Live A Peaceful and Abundant Life In 9 Words
This is one to hang on the wall
Henry David Thoreau was an American writer who said pertinent things such as:
“The question is not what you look at, but what you see.”
And:
“Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.”
I agree with both of these statements and they are what allowed him to live a rich and fulfilling life.
But there was something else that he wrote that really stuck with me, and it relates to finding true peace and abundance in life.
“I make myself rich by making my wants few” — Henry David Thoreau
Here are my thoughts on why this has had such a profound impact on me.
When I want less, I’m more content with what I have.
When I’m more content with what I have, I’m more aware of the things I need.
When I have all the things I need, I feel better about myself.
When I feel better about myself, I can be of service to others.
When I am of service to others, my life feels meaningful.
When my life feels meaningful, I have fewer wants.
And so the cycle is complete.
This is the path to wealth.
Which is otherwise known as peace.
“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves” — Dalai Lama
One of the ways I try and do that is to strip back on what I need and be content with what I have.
I don’t know about you but the older I get, the more I realise how underrated simplicity really is.
