People Change for Two Main Reasons

The first one hurts. The second one heals

If someone told me 20 years ago that I would be teaching breathing exercises to people around the world, I would have wondered what the hell they were talking about.

However, after living with anxiety throughout much of my adult life I searched for holistic ways to heal my troubled mind. Meditation, yoga, and breathwork were fundamental in creating the person I am today. So much so that I wanted to share them with others.

If someone told me 10 years ago that my dad would prefer to drink alcoholic free beers instead of getting drunk, I would have laughed at them.

However, the older he’s got, the more he enjoys drinking “beer” without the hangover. It also satisfies his addictive tendencies whereas before he was just an alcoholic.

These examples touch upon the two main reasons why people change. Steven Aitchison explains why:

“People change for two main reasons, either their hearts have been broken or their minds have been opened.”

I needed to change because I was a mess. My heart was broken.

My dad wanted to change because he saw a different approach that didn’t compromise his needs. His mind had been opened.
