There are some things in life that we never forget. My first Soma Breath experience was one of them. And like all the best things, it happened by chance.

I was living in a community in Guatemala with people that I loved so when a man by the name of Mitchell Hart stopped by and invited everyone to share in a breathwork session, I felt safe to explore.

I hadn’t experienced much breathwork prior to that — I had only experienced breathing exercises found in meditation and Kundalini yoga — but my life had been so enriched by these practices that I was curious to explore other ways to experience the breath.

After a short introduction to the technique, he played a piece of specifically designed brainwave music that captivated me into a nervous anticipation.

Brainwave music supports people to drop into a deep meditative state but I didn’t know that at the time. All I heard was a deep bass-y frequency that thumped to the rhythm of a heart and prepared me to breathe.

During the following 20 minutes, my entire being dissolved and I felt connected to everything that exists…
