“To be in awe of the world is to be in love with it” — Unknown

It’s hard to put into words what the underworld world does to me. Astronauts have compared it to space. And I can see why.

Both require a mask, a buoyancy control device, and an oxygen supply.

They share the same weightless, gravity-free experience too and both are otherworldly.

For the life of me, I still don’t know why anyone wants to go into space when there are universes and galaxies a few feet under the surface of our oceans.

These oceans are home to the psychedelic throb of jellyfish. The ancient clumsiness of turtles. The glide and grace of manta rays. The steely confidence of sharks. The shyness of seahorses. The utter magnificence of whales. The shapeshifting beauty of octopuses. The electrifying colors of coral. Kelp. Dragon Eels. Crocodile fish. Blobfish. Vampire squid. Sea angels. And water. That magical molecule that makes life possible. The home of earth-defying creatures and the deep blue mystery that has stolen my heart.

“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever” — Jacques Yves Cousteau
