The Best Books I’ve Read This Year
From relationships to psychology — here are some of the topics I’ve been enjoying so far
I read a lot but I’m selective. So, this list isn’t long but it’s full of goodness.
As we pass the halfway mark of the year, here are three of my favourite books I’ve read so far.
1. Mating In Captivity — Esther Perel
In my early twenties, relationships were a mystery to me, especially the happy long-term ones. I simultaneously wanted to be in one but was scared shitless of them. And after a few failed attempts, I had absolutely no idea what to do.
Then I found Esther Perel and she made everything clear.
She said things like:
“In relationships, trust isn’t a promise to never hurt each other. It’s the risk that we will hurt each other and the confidence that, if we do, we will come together to heal.”
And:
“The grand illusion of committed love is that we think our partners are ours.”
This went against everything I had grown up thinking relationships were — a safe space without conflict and where we belonged to one another.
